The airline-approved carrier that is soft-sided, water-repellent, has ventilation, and is small enough to fit under the seat in front of you.  Seams to be the carrier of choice, and you can put 25 lb. and under in it.  It can be purchased at Walmart or Chewy or on line.    Some pet nanny’s or pet transport person have them for their use and they may rent them. BUT YOU NEED TO SPEAK WITH ALL PEOPLE PRIOR TO MAKING RESERVATIONS, AND BE SURE HOW MUCH AND WHEN AND WHERE YOU NEED TO BE. SOMETIMES THERE IS AN ADDITIONAL FEE AT THE AIRPORT AT THE LAST MINUTE.
Before Booking & At the Airport
Call Southwest Immediately: Reserve your pet's spot by calling Southwest as soon as possible to ensure there's an open slot for your carrier on the flight.  Pay the Pet Fare: The fee for a pet in the cabin is $125 each way.  Arrive Early: Plan to arrive at the airport at least 2.5 hours before your flight to complete the pet check-in process and pay the fee.  Pet Carrier Requirements
1. Size & Fit: The carrier must be soft or hard-sided, well-ventilated, leak-proof, and small enough to fit completely under the seat in front of you.
2. Comfort: Your dog must be able to stand up, turn around, and lie down comfortably inside the carrier.
3. Carry-On Item: The carrier counts as your personal item or carry-on bag, so you may also bring one regular-sized carry-on bag.
During Your Flight
Stay Secured: Your dog must remain inside the carrier at all times for the entire flight.  Under the Seat: The carrier must be stowed under the seat in front of you for takeoff, landing, and taxi.  No Disruptive Behavior: Pets showing disruptive behavior may be denied boarding.  Important Reminders
Age Requirement: Your dog must be at least 8 weeks old.  No Exceptions: Southwest does not allow pets as cargo or checked baggage.  No International or Hawaii Flights: Pets are not permitted on international itineraries or flights to and from Hawaii.  To fly with your dog on American Airlines, you need to book their space in advance as there are limited pet spots per flight, a carrier that fits under the seat (or a properly sized crate if checking), and proof of health, such as a valid health certificate from your veterinarian. You will also pay a pet fee at the ticket counter, allow extra check-in time, and ensure your dog is healthy, clean, and well-behaved.
Before you book
1. Contact American Airlines: or your Airlines
Call Reservations to confirm availability for your specific flight, as there's a limited number of pets allowed.
2. Understand the fees:
A pet fee is required each way. The cost varies depending on whether your pet is in the cabin or flying as cargo.
3. Check for temperature restrictions:
Pets traveling as checked baggage or cargo are not permitted to fly to or from certain locations (like Phoenix, Tucson, Las Vegas, or Palm Springs) during warm months.
Documentation
Health Certificate: A valid health certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian is required and must be issued within 10 days of your travel date. Vaccination Records: Proof of rabies vaccination is also required. Pet Carrier/Crate
Your dog must fit into an airline-approved carrier that is soft-sided, water-repellent, has ventilation, and is small enough to fit under the seat in front of you.
If traveling as checked baggage or cargo, the crate must be large enough for your dog to stand, turn around, and lie down, be leak-proof and escape-proof, and have proper ventilation.
At the airport
Check-in early: Arrive at the ticket counter at least two hours, but no more than four hours, before your flight.  Check-in: You will complete a checklist and pay the pet fee at the ticket counter.  Be prepared: Ensure your pet is well-behaved and clean.  Important Considerations
Sedation: Do not sedate your pet, as this can lead to breathing issues.  Return Trip: If your return flight is more than 10 days after the health certificate was issued, you'll need a new exam and certificate.  Pets − Travel information - American Airlines
